roller coaster of dysfunction

A Big Thrill Ride

roller coaster of dysfunction

“My life has been nothing but a roller coaster of dysfunction and it never seems to end.” By tornapart on supportgroups.com

loopy run course
upside down excitement
shouting; straining laughter
combed hair turned into knots

shooting star
with sprinkled cotton candy
rabbit falling down the hole
fear of going through the rail

sun beating
pleasant night wind
breath knocked out of lungs
heart and stomach being one

upward pull; downward swing
weightlessness
uncontrollable momentum
entertaining fun

About zongrik

For those of you who do not know the handle "zongrik," that would be Bat-Ami Gordin. Most people call me "Tammy." Bat-Ami means "daughter of my nation" in Hebrew. It's a heavy name to carry around. I answer to either name. I also answer to "mama." Some Basic Things about me: Animal lover, mom, poet/writer, dramatic soprano, photographer, teacher/tutor, CERT/Technician and, oh yeah, aerospace engineer. I consider myself "The Astro-Poet." To learn more about the origins of the word "zongrik" see whats-a-zongrik?

  1. ha…we ind excitement in scaring ourselves…pushing the envelope and dancing the dge of our mortality….sometimes we slip through those cracks for sure…but its all in fun right…smiles…an interesting quote too which adds a whole other element…

  2. Lots of emotions there, nicely done 🙂

  3. Very vivid descriptions, and a lot of detail make this come to life.

  4. Yes, this is avery vivid, and could serve for life or amusement park. k.

  5. I am amazed at how well this metaphor and the reality of the roller coaster… describes life!

  6. Sounds like fun, in theory:
    “upside down excitement”
    “combed hair turned into knots”

  7. Ups and downs well put, great poem.

Excellent write. Boy the dysfunctional roller coaster, epitomizes my life, well at least the past 3 years give or take a few months, and being the front car never makes things better. I love the being able to laugh there at the ending, entertaining fun, or that’s how it struck me, kinda goes back to a friend I have who says I put the fun in dysfunction, which has become cliche in the popular culture, but he still claims to be the originator of it lol

  9. Whoa!!! You produced a fantastic imagery through this……nice work 🙂

  10. ah thanks for taking us on that thrill ride… the hairs in knots and stomach and heart one…oh i can feel this… i’m such a coward with fun rides..

  11. I like it very much. Penultimate verse nailed it for me.

  12. Well I’m dizzy now from the loop de loop! Life is such a rollercoaster, nothing is ever certain that’s for sure…nice take!

  13. This conjures it all brilliantly, the glamour, the excitement, the pull and the hesitation. Great.

  14. The ride is like a shooting star ~ I really like this ~

  15. “fear of going through the rail…heart and stomach being one….”

i know that feeling! nicely caught experience 😉

  16. Life really is a roller coaster, isn’t it.Filled with highs and lows and stomach/heart stopping twists that leave us breathless. Lovely capture of both ride and, life 🙂

  17. I used to love roller coasters, but I guess I’m just an ole fuddy-duddy now.

  18. I’ve never been on a real serious roller coaster as you have to go to a Theme park and the best ones, such as Nemesis, are a long away from where I live. This is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRE2HCME-Dc&feature=colike

  19. Odd, how we love being scared and pushed to the limits of craziness.
Very vivid write. I like it!

  20. “rabbit falling down the hole
fear of going through the rail” love that!

  21. Well done. I’ve ridden far too many dsyfunctional coasters in my time. I’m happy to spend my time on solid ground now. My stomach doesn’t drop in excitement much anymore, but nor do I find my heart in my throat either.

  22. ha what a ride – ‘
    ‘shooting star
    with sprinkled cotton candy
    rabbit falling down the hole
fear of going through the rail

  23. Tammy, there is a bit of an “adrenalin junkie” in me, I admit, but this ride sounds WAY out of my league! I, too, have had trouble with comments that don’t “stick” in WordPress, but once I shut down my Google gmail, they seem to stay. Hmmmmm… conspiracy theorist alert! Ha ha Love, Amy (I did a dverse, too)
