dark feathers, dead crows

Figure Eight by Franz Kline

dark feathers, dead crows

dark feathers, dead crows
strange, submissive,
forever hungry

gloomy rough lace
suggestive pupae
overshadows death

egregious flapping
moth shadows murmuring
over a final petal

stone drops on the grave
bone-white pebbles
misfortune of another

About zongrik

For those of you who do not know the handle "zongrik," that would be Bat-Ami Gordin. Most people call me "Tammy." Bat-Ami means "daughter of my nation" in Hebrew. It's a heavy name to carry around. I answer to either name. I also answer to "mama." Some Basic Things about me: Animal lover, mom, poet/writer, dramatic soprano, photographer, teacher/tutor, CERT/Technician and, oh yeah, aerospace engineer. I consider myself "The Astro-Poet." To learn more about the origins of the word "zongrik" see whats-a-zongrik?

  1. pretty cool that many are seeing birds…i like the addition of the moth…that last stanza is def stilling…

i dont know the name of the paintbrush but it is very thick and willing to hold a lot of paint…..

  2. Excellent, evocative. Once I read this I see nothing but crows in the image.

  3. Love this. I too saw birds, crows or ravens and death. Great interpretation Tammy.

  4. I really like this poem Tammy. Dark. Moody. Spacial. I listened to the audio as well, and your voice lends strength to the poem. The FK painting fits so well to create the visual imagery. Nice work.

  5. I loved hearing you read it! It added a darkness to it. Great take on the poem!

  6. The words are worthy of the witches incantations in Macbeth ! 🙂

  7. Dark and sinister… lovely interpretation.

  8. Dead crows! Delicious as dark chocolate…

  9. Foreshadowing may-hap? (Crows do get such a negative reputation-) or Metamorphosis ?

  10. Sounds morbid! But it’s often true! Misfortune tends to come in doses that it becomes so unsettling. Great write zongrik!

    Hank

  11. Beautifully done! I am green….

  12. great stuff,,,i def didn’t see crows..x

  13. Sounds like a nightmare 🙂 Really scarey— well done !

  14. I didn’t see these images but good to note now the dark and shadows of this abstract painting ~

  15. I always leave here thinking about your words… so intriguing, so dimensional.

  16. Mars black for sure…. this poem has itchy edges I want to scratch away. Reminds me of the places in the painting where the paint lines became thinner and broken (edgy), not as harmonious. Kudos for capturing that, Zongrik.

  17. Much appreciated as a very different take on the prompt…

  18. A chilling permanence..the bone white pebble..the end..so visual..good for you!

  19. Chuck Tedeschi

They are Ravens, here in the US…

  20. WoW! Fab! You have got a way of reassessing an image! I’m all feathery now!

  21. So dark and intense. Well done!

  22. Oh my, Zongrik, this is fabulous! I love it, and I love that the crows spoke to you, as well.

  23. It always amazes me how darkness appears at the brightest time of year, up there, downunder its called ” Christmas” , thanks Zongrik

  24. hypercryptical

Dark excellent write- and I now see the birds.

    Anna :o]

  25. I just enjoy the take on everyone with this. I totally believe that the birds shall win out! Great writing, thanks!
