Henderson Hill

Henderson Hill

On Henderson Hill any time of the year
the branches arabesque in the breeze.
Birds boldly appear, on the tips of twigs
that smear into clouds from the trees.
As a doe grazes calmly with her twins,
the heavens and sky, seem to freeze.
Prepare your mind to paint serenity;
  equanimity pacifies enduring unease.

On of my Twitter friends TERRILL WELCH painted the above painting, and it is for sale. I liked it so much that I wrote this little poem for it.

Terrill thinks the best link for this poem might be the one directly to the painting process at http://creativepotager.wordpress.com/2011/05/02/story-of-the-henderson-hill-original-oil-painting

However, a she says a general link to Creative Potager is at
and/or redbubble at

About zongrik

For those of you who do not know the handle "zongrik," that would be Bat-Ami Gordin. Most people call me "Tammy." Bat-Ami means "daughter of my nation" in Hebrew. It's a heavy name to carry around. I answer to either name. I also answer to "mama." Some Basic Things about me: Animal lover, mom, poet/writer, dramatic soprano, photographer, teacher/tutor, CERT/Technician and, oh yeah, aerospace engineer. I consider myself "The Astro-Poet." To learn more about the origins of the word "zongrik" see whats-a-zongrik?

  1. Upon second read I stepped into the world and enjoyed the calmness and beauty:)

  2. Your’e poems seem simple at first but are so deep and make me think about life ~~

  3. A chance meeting and something new is created through spontaneous inspiration. A painting and a poem. Now neither shall likely seem complete without other. It is a pleasure and an honour Bat-Ami to share this short journey with you through my painting and your arrangement of words. Thank you for posting my painting here with your poem. warmly, Terrill

  4. I read this on gmail before coming here to comment and I saw that painting in my mind, already. Wonderful – both words and image. 🙂

  5. This poem, zongrik, is another of sublime beauty, and it helps me relax and find tranquility. Thanks!

  6. You are so right, Henderson Hill is most often relaxing and tranquil but in one of our coastal storms it can also provide an invigorating swell of energy.

  7. Bat Ami, this is a beautiful poem; one that definitely is calming as well as ensuring we cast our imagination towards the world beyond us and visualise Henderson Hill -it made me want to be there. The painting has a beauty on its own but together it is fab -they do seem to belong together; I love it when collaborations like this -be it intentional or not, come together and becomes something sensational!

    • Thank you. I really like writing poems to paintings and pictures. Terrel is going to think about whether there’s another painting of hers to which I can compose a poem.
