Initiated Kiss

Lovers Kissing by Joseph Lorusso

Initiated Kiss

There was a man
who was The Kiss
after a meal,
but not even dating.

Only one
earnestly fell in love;
a kiss to which
one utters, “WOW!”
blinding everyone’s
point of view.
They must kiss all the time.

Oh.
Behind the ear.
Around the neck.
A little touch
here and there.

Initiation? By whom?
Is this for real?
This kind of kiss,
better than any before.
No one observes those lips.
It’s all a point of view.

Public display of affection —
extremely tight and thrilling.
Let them perform
so long, so hungry.
Private entertainers
competing against
mediocre sustenance.

About zongrik

For those of you who do not know the handle "zongrik," that would be Bat-Ami Gordin. Most people call me "Tammy." Bat-Ami means "daughter of my nation" in Hebrew. It's a heavy name to carry around. I answer to either name. I also answer to "mama." Some Basic Things about me: Animal lover, mom, poet/writer, dramatic soprano, photographer, teacher/tutor, CERT/Technician and, oh yeah, aerospace engineer. I consider myself "The Astro-Poet." To learn more about the origins of the word "zongrik" see whats-a-zongrik?

  1. it’s interesting how public displays of affection make you feel both unneasy and envious at the same time…

  2. You are so right to liken this to a performance – a public display of affection – even a most sincere kiss can, to the observer, seem to be a little OTT. Well done.

  3. There are kisses … then there ARE kisses!

  4. wow – what a kiss to have to kiss all the time!

  5. Totally consumed by their love- and it’s hard not to be amazed as the sheer sight of it right!

  6. The kind of kiss that’ll curl ones toes, that would be some kiss!

  7. Delicious! And love that strong ending.

  8. Ahhh, those kisses. I keep one in my pocket and it lights up the room at times….

  9. There are kissers who deliver publicly with no holds barred in their arsenal. Both would have wished for more! Nicely Tammy!

    Hank

  10. Clever and engaging…

  11. I enjoyed this glimpse in a possible time!! Thanks
    Hugs
    SueAnn

  12. There are nibblers and smoochers for sure! sometimes it is too much too wet- you know!
    anyway thanks for reminding me!

  13. So well done, and I especially love the ending.

    =)

  14. It is such a surreal experience, coming across two people kissing in public, such a liminal zone, like meeting a beggar in Australia , something calling out from ” down below”

  15. Yes, lots of conflicting reactions upon seeing public displays of affection (a polite description of what’s sometimes on view these days). “…one’s point of view” as you say, is informed by so many influences in life; age for sure 😉

  16. Love this poem Tammy. There are kisses and then there are kisses – and those ones should be kept private.

  17. Ah, PDA. I’m not quite sure how to react to it, but yes, this summed up the feeling well. Great ending to this poem.

  18. ha….i am not opposed to public dispalys of affection…there is a line though that is not to be crossed….lol…i dont need to see body parts….smiles.

  19. I’ve seen this kiss before – with cheers of “get a room”. To share or not to share…that is the question.

  20. nice interpretation of the image, i especially liked “Private entertainers
    competing against
    mediocre sustenance”…
    made me smile 😉

  21. […]
They must kiss all the time.

    Oh.
    Behind the ear.
    Around the neck.
    A little touch
    here and there.

Great images. It makes me imagine soft voices telling different versions of a rumour.

  22. nicely done. Either the painting inspired the verse, or you were somehow able to find a painting that matched darn near perfectly to your poetry, either way, really nice piece. I love the final lines here, a great wit comes through re: the mediocre sustenance. Initiation by whom? Is this for real? another nice sequence here. Great reading as well, love the influx of your voice in specific parts, really accentuating the words very nicely. Thanks

  23. The word “perform” made me wonder about the exibitionist nature of PDA. How much of it is that you are into what you are doing, and how much of it is that you are into other people watching. Thanks for the ponderings.

  24. Sometimes it just can’t be helped…

  25. Zongrik. This amazed me. Takes step easily into my top 5 placing!

  26. You describe the feelings so well. Wonder what the feelings of the performers are. A vanity jealousy balance perhaps.

  27. That kiss was sure not one to miss and surely caused pure bliss.

  28. i imagine them sitting in the kiss pose long enough for the painting =) hehe

  29. An awesome picture, also
Put me in mind of one of my favourite paintings –
    Munchs ‘The Kiss’.
i cant stand public demonstrations of any kind, especially affection
but i like poems and pictures regarding them them 🙂

    Top reading as ever!

    cheers Tammy
