Portrait of Bob-2

Bob liked to snow ski, mountain bike, and participate in Motocross, which he did for 40 years.

Bob worked in the printing industry or about 30 years so he worked printed children’s books, schools books, and catalogs for various publishers . Most of the work he did was for for schools and universities, so for example, his catalogs were most often printed for these institutions of learning.

Bob was originally from San Fernando Valley and went to John H. Francis Polytechnic High School “Poly High School.” At the time of this posting, he lived in Santa Clarita, California, USA.

Portrait of Justin-1

1

To say that Justin was an impressive Motocross rider would be a failed understatement. He was absolutely amazing for his age. He also rode very safely among adult stunt riders and knew exactly what he was doing.

Justin was seven years old and lived with his four sisters, his single dad, and his grandma and grandpa. He was in the first grade and was passionate about Motocross. He also liked baseball and football. Justin was the first boy I met, since I started this portrait project, that did not like Legos. He only liked motorized bikes, bicycles and american team sports.

Justin got all A’s in school and was mechanically oriented. There was a good chance that when Justin grew up he would become a mechanical engineer.

Portrait of Michael

Michael was seventeen and went to Legacy High School in Bismarck, North Dakota, USA. His father, however, lived in Rosamond, California, USA.

Michael had been doing Motocross since a very young age and his only other interests were participating in BMX and skateboarding. Michael was also mechanical, and wanted to be either a welder or a mechanic when he completed High School.

Michael was a really great guy. I was making action shots of his incredible stunts (see below) and was amazed to see that he was so young when he took his helmet off. It was just such a pleasure being around someone who was so stable and knew exactly what he wanted in life.

Portrait of Jaqi

This is Jaqi, Ido’s friend. I met them both at the AV Motoplex  Motocross Ride Park. Every time I pass this facility, I assumed the guys riding were 12 or 13. But they really are men. I guess people flying into Fox Field think they are ants.

Jaqi is also Israeli, but unlike Ido, who is originally from Holon, a city, Jaqi made a point about being from a settlement in the South. That means he is from the desert and is probably very comfortable in Antelope Valley in the Summer. He currently lives in Tarzana, CA, USA. That’s not on the beach either. Jaqi and Ido don’t know each other from Israel, or from LA, but from Motocross.

I like this pose. It makes a sweet portrait. I didn’t ask for a pose, and certainly not this one, but Jaqi saw me shooting pictures while he was changing his footwear, and gave me a double thumbs up and a great smile. This is him, no acting, no modeling, just him.

Portrait of Ido

Happy New Year folks!!! The number 16 is a great: wonderful age; perfect square; and its own binary number. A cool number on so many levels. But 2016 is not 16. 2016 sucked.

For those of you who liked my poetry blog, sorry. If it’s any consolation, I haven’t been writing anything. I have been doing photography. For real. If you don’t believe me check out my instagram page. So, to keep my blog going, I have decided to try to do one portrait a day, for a year. YIKES!! Don’t know if I can do it, but I can try. [Yoda: Do. Or do not. There is no try.] If I achieve this, I will learn more than I can imagine at this point in time.

I went out shooting  New Years Eve, having no idea who I would find, and I found Ido, a Motorcross rider, at AV Motoplex  Motocross Ride Park. I have seen this facility off the  CA-14 every time I pass. This was the first time I ventured out there.

Ido is Israeli and originally from Holon, a city on the central of the Mediterranean coast, south of Tel Aviv. He now lives in Redondo Beach, California, USA.

Ido has been doing Motocross for five years and his Dad comes along to help with his equipment. Ido also rides with a few friends, Israelis that he met in the LA area. I would have asked him more about himself, but he wanted to get on his bike and ride.

What I like about this portrait is that due to the muscles around his eyes and eyebrows, you can see his grin without seeing his mouth.

I’m not always going to add extra pictures, but I thought Ido (1) cleaning his bike (2) sitting on his bike and (3) loading up on potassium-saturated carbs were interesting shots.
