DJ was a sophomore in high school. His favorite subject was physical education and his favorite music was rap. He played basketball with his friends for fun but he played football on the high school team.

Portrait of Tyler


Tyler was a member of the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) team at Desert High School on Edwards Air Force Base. She had been involved in this program for two years and was a staff sergeant.

She participated because, “ROTC has really dedicated me into really being helpful to people and I’m also going into the military After High School.” She specifically wanted to go into the Infantry in the United State Army.

Portrait of Tamaraus


Tamaraus was originally from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. However, he was staying in Rosamond, California with cousins. He was attending Rosamond High where he was a sophomore and his most beloved subject was physical education.

Tamaraus was planning to try out for the basketball team. He thought it would be cool if he could make the varsity basketball team, but he would be happy just to make junior varsity.

Portrait of Sanah


Sanah was originally from Zabadani, Syria. She immigrated to the United States when she was 18 years old, so her life in Syria consisted of being a student.

Sanah first’s profession was as a floral arranger who mostly did weddings. But, as of late, she “settled on creating natural soaps and lotions at home.”

All Sanah’s products “are natural, with only the best ingredients: pure olive oil, shea butter and coconut oils.”

Sanah has “some of the best creams that you can get.” Sanah puts together personal gift packages and you can order her products online at Levant Beauty.

Robert wanted to be a member of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) or play college football. He was a senior in high school and considered himself very athletic.

Youu was visiting her family in Bakersfield, California, USA from Shanghai, China. She had two adorable grandchildren in the United States and was lucky enough to come and spend time with them. Youu was a retired Elementary School teacher who taught first through sixth grade throughout her career.

Victor had been a member of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and worked as a mechanic for heavy support equipment for the F-18 Hornet.

Victor was originally from San Diego, California, USA. At the time of the interview, he lived in Rosamond, California with his wife and four children.

Portrait of Nicole-2


Nicole raised livestock at Antelope Valley High School, specifically steers and heifers. Although she was a student at California State University Bakersfield (CSUB), she didn’t consider raising livestock as a hobby, “I just like raising steers in general because it’s a fun project to do. I want to be an exotic animal trainer.”

Nicole raised steer for the Antelope Valley Fair. She was part of Future Farmers of America (FFA) and had participated in these activities for four years, she was going on her fifth year. Nicole was quite successful at raising livestock for the fair evidenced by her winning Grand Champion in 2016 and Reserve Champion in 2017.

Portrait of Christian


Christian was skateboarding for about 7 or 8 years. He never competed, but wanted to, Christian remarked, “It’s just a matter of putting in the applications and trying to get ready for the competition, and getting there.”

Christian was born and raised in Lancaster, California, USA.
